Artwork Description
The piece Molienda evokes the primal act of transforming matter. Its circular form, carved from volcanic stone, alludes to the traditional millstones used to grind maize — an essential element of Mexico’s cultural and spiritual identity. The central void suggests movement, wear, and the passage of time: a trace that reveals both human effort and the endurance of the earth. The wooden base, assembled in modular blocks, contrasts with the stone’s density, highlighting the tension between the organic and the constructed, between nature and technique. Molienda condenses in its geometry the repetitive gesture of labor and the memory of sustenance, paying homage to the crafts that sustain daily life and to the processes that connect body, territory, and material.
