About

Berenice Vargas Bravo (born in Mexico City) earned a BFA and MFA in Fine Arts from Beaux-Arts de Nantes, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Université de Nantes (France). She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Painting and Drawing at SAIC.
Her artistic practice primarily focuses on large format figurative painting, characterized by a graphic style and a high-contrast palette. Through the paintings, she seeks to make visible the contra- dictions and tensions that shape human relationships. While some of her paintings depict absurd false legendary episodes, others represent more intimate scenes where mischievous characters dare to do things they shouldn’t do. By doing so, she aims to expose the underlying structural systems that silently shape our world. Although painting is the most representative medium of her work, her practice also extends to theatrical performances, large-scale installations and hybrid sculptural objects that try to conjugate the painting with the space.
Her work has been exhibited at the HAOS gallery, Atelier Le Bras and Galerie Sabrina Lucas in Nantes; Maia Muller Gallery, Ca- mille Pouyfaucon Gallery and La Villette museum in Paris; The National Museum of Mexican Art and Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago, ARCO Madrid, FAMA Monterrey and NADA Miami.
